The reason Germany celebrates two Children’s Days is rooted in history.
International Children’s Day on June 1st was celebrated in the former East Germany (GDR) and remains familiar to many families today. World Children’s Day on September 20th was introduced in former West Germany. After reunification, both dates remained and continue to be celebrated.
